Jan 23rd: Well, off we go! Nice job today and great turn out, once again, by the Survivors!
We logged in another 3.2 miles! And kudos to Roberta for getting schooled by Jerry and Susie on steering- I was hoping to get Ronnie over there too- next time!
Afterwards I saw Kim and Roberta over at the Santa Clara OC demo, braving the gale-storm winds back there! I think they may have settled on a purchase! Good for you guys!
Next week: Lets see if we can top the recruiting efforts of the open team, but I warn you Judith's recruiting number will be hard to beat- she has 43 -scratch that 53! people who rsvped "yes" to her invite to come try the sport on Sunday! If we can get 1/4 as many we'd be set pretty well.
Bring a buddy, family member or friend to the orientation on the 30th!
Its looking to be a fun day.
After our practice from 8-9 we will regroup and introduce the newbies to veteran paddlers, discuss, teach, demonstrate the dynamics and basics of the stroke and then get them on the water to paddle!
We'll tool around the bay for about a half hour and then - we eat!
Tell interested participants that no experience is necessary!
They should dress in layers, and bring a change of clothes as they may be getting wet- right Lucy?
We are planning to have fun! I promise not to scare them away!
Jan 16th: Hey TEAM! Hope you all felt that you benefited by todays video and stationary boat circus! I think combining with the open team will be more productive after we all work out the kinks of getting it together. The sooner we and they can understand the basics involved in the stroke, the better off we will be. In any case its helpful to us to be able to take advantage of their capabilities for film and additional steering talent. Video is a key component of learning and we hope to take more advantage it their set-up.
Overall I think practice went well, it was a gorgeous day in San Diego and I appreciate you all making it to practice this morning!
Anyone else have some thoughts about our practice and our journey to Long Beach?
Paula says that a lot of people phoned in to SeaWorld concerned about the bay dolphin, and was assured that the critter is a-ok.
Here is the GPS red-blob !
Jan 9th: Another great day-even tho it was early.. oy vey, thanks for encouraging yourselves to get up and out the door today at o'dark thirty! But it was a beautiful day to be on the water. We even spotted a dolphin in the bay. I think Paula was going to inform SeaWorld to try to coax it back to the ocean.

Combing efforts with the open team will benefit our efforts to take it up a notch. I hope the breakdown of the stroke that Mike offered was helpful to you. I've set up another tab on the "home" page that explains the stroke by breaking it down to each "phase".We paddled 4 more miles towards our goal!
If we were to set out by land, as previously noted, we would have gotten to Rubios on Mission Bay Drive heading to the I5.
Financial contributions are greatly appreciated
